# Sign-up fields

These settings control who may register on your store and what they must provide. They are where you apply restrictions such as approving new accounts, enforcing a minimum age, or limiting registration to particular email domains.

### Settings

* **Sign-Up** - what kind of customers may register, whether individual, corporate or both.
* **Verify Email** - new accounts must confirm their email address by entering a one-time code, which prevents registrations with mistyped or fake addresses.
* **Approval** - new accounts are held until you approve them. You can set which account types need approval and who receives the notification.
* **Age Restriction** - customers must enter their date of birth and meet a minimum age. This is mainly used by stores selling age-restricted goods such as alcohol.
* **Social Login** - allows customers to register using an external account. Set the provider up first under Login methods.
* **Whitelisted Email Domains** - only allows registration from the domains you list, separated by commas. This is how a store restricts itself to staff or to a single client's organisation.
* **Password Visibility Toggle** - lets customers reveal what they have typed when entering a password.

### Password Policy

You can require a minimum number of each of the following in a customer's password:

* **Minimum Length** - total characters.
* **Lower Case Characters**
* **Upper Case Characters**
* **Special Characters** - such as # $ % ^ & \*
* **Numbers**

{% hint style="warning" %}
Approval and email verification both add a step between a customer registering and being able to order. They are worth using where you need control over who has an account, but check that someone is monitoring approvals before switching that on.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
Changes apply to new registrations. Customers who already have an account are not asked to meet a new password policy until they next change their password.
