# Google Analytics

Google Analytics tells you how customers find and use your store: where they came from, which pages they visit, where they leave, and which marketing is actually producing orders. It is the main tool most merchants use to decide what to change on their store.

### Before You Start

Set up a Google Analytics property for your store and note its measurement or tracking ID.

### How to Add Google Analytics

1. Set up Analytics for your store and copy your tracking ID
2. Select the store you wish to add the tracking ID to
3. Click on Manage Store Settings underneath Settings
4. Open Marketing & Growth
5. Open the Google Analytics section
6. Enter the ID provided by Google
7. Switch on enhanced analytics if you want the additional e-commerce reporting
8. Save your changes
9. Visit your storefront, then check the realtime report in Google Analytics to confirm your visit is recorded

{% hint style="info" %}
Enhanced analytics reports e-commerce activity such as products viewed and purchases completed, which is what makes Analytics genuinely useful for a store rather than just a visitor counter.
{% endhint %}

As with any tracking tool, check that your privacy policy and cookie consent reflect what you are collecting. See [Cookies](/features/stores/store-settings/security-and-privacy/cookies.md) and [Store privacy](/features/stores/store-settings/security-and-privacy/store-privacy.md).
