# Email sender

The email sender settings control who your store's emails appear to come from, where customer replies are delivered, and which mail server those emails are sent through.

By default the store sends email for you. A merchant who would rather send from their own mail server can enter their own details here, so that email leaves from their own domain and appears in their own sent mail.

### From and Reply-To

* **Email display name** - the name customers see the email come from.
* **Reply to email** - the address customer replies are delivered to.

### Mail Server

These are the details supplied by your mail provider, such as Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or Amazon SES.

* **Custom Server** - switch this on to send through your own mail server rather than the store's.
* **Host** - the address of the mail server.
* **Port** - the port the mail server listens on.
* **Username** and **Password** - the credentials for the mailbox the store sends from.
* **SSL** - switch this on if your server uses SSL or TLS encryption. Most providers do.

### How to Update the From and Reply-To Addresses

1. Select the store you would like to update
2. Click on Manage Store Settings underneath Settings
3. Open Notifications & Email
4. Open the Email sender section
5. Enter the email display name customers should see
6. Enter the reply-to address customer replies should go to
7. Save your changes

### How to Send Through Your Own Mail Server

1. Collect the host, port and mailbox credentials from your mail provider
2. Follow steps 1 to 4 above to reach the Email sender section
3. Switch Custom Server on
4. Enter the host and port
5. Enter the username and password for the mailbox the store should send from
6. Switch SSL on if your provider uses encryption, which most do
7. Save your changes
8. Place a test order on your storefront and confirm both you and the customer receive the expected emails

{% hint style="info" %}
Email settings are held per store, so a merchant running more than one store can send each store's email from a different address.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
If emails stop arriving after changing these details, check the host, port and credentials with your mail provider first. An incorrect password here will stop the store sending customer email altogether.
{% endhint %}
