Google Maps
Connecting Google Maps lets your store work with addresses properly: suggesting them as a customer types, pinning them accurately, and powering your store locator. It is also required before local delivery can work, because local delivery needs to measure the distance to a customer's address.
Before You Start
You need a Google Maps API key. You can set one up through the Google Maps Platform. The relevant APIs must be enabled in your Google Cloud Console.
Settings
Google Geocoding - precise address pin-drop at checkout.
Google Places - powers the store locator, address selection and checkout address lookup.
Enable New Places API - uses Google's newer address search component on the store locator. This requires the new Places API to be enabled in your Google Cloud Console.
How to Enable Google Maps
Set up your Google Maps API key and enable the APIs you need in the Google Cloud Console
Select the store you want to enable Google Maps on
Click on Manage Store Settings underneath Settings
Open Shopping Experience
Open the Google Maps section
Enter your Google API key
Switch on Geocoding and Places as required
Save your changes
Test an address lookup at checkout on your storefront to confirm suggestions appear
If address lookup or your store locator stops working, the usual cause is the relevant API not being enabled on the Google side, or the key having usage restrictions. Check your Google Cloud Console before assuming the key is wrong.
Local delivery will not calculate distances without Google Maps enabled. See Local Delivery.
