# Wallet

The wallet lets a customer hold credit against their account and spend it on your store. It is useful for issuing a refund as credit, applying a goodwill gesture, or running a loyalty arrangement, without having to create a discount code each time.

### Settings

* **Enable** - makes the wallet available on this store.
* **Force wallet use** - when switched on, a customer with credit has it applied at checkout automatically. When off, the customer chooses whether to spend their credit on that order.

### How to Enable the Wallet

1. Select the store you wish to enable the wallet on
2. Click on Manage Store Settings underneath Settings
3. Open Shopping Experience
4. Open the Wallet section
5. Switch Enable on
6. Choose whether to force wallet use at checkout
7. Save your changes

### Crediting and Debiting a Customer

Once the wallet is enabled, you add or remove credit from a customer's balance under Sales > Wallets. See [Wallets](/features/sales/wallets.md) for how to do that.

{% hint style="info" %}
Forcing wallet use means a customer cannot save their credit for a larger purchase later. Leaving it off gives the customer the choice, which is usually the friendlier option.
{% endhint %}
