# Application APIs

Application APIs let the merchant connect other systems to their store. An API application is a set of credentials that identifies the connecting system, so that an ERP, accounting package, stock system or custom integration can read and update store data securely.

Each application is tied to a store and has a type that reflects what it is being used for.

### Setting Up an Application

* **Store** - the store the application may access.
* **Name** - a name identifying what the application is for, such as the system it connects.
* **Application Type** - the kind of application being connected.

### How to Add an Application API

1. Click on System at the bottom of the left-hand menu
2. Click on Application APIs
3. Create a new application
4. Select the store and give the application a name
5. Choose the application type
6. Save your changes

{% hint style="warning" %}
API credentials give another system access to store data. Share them only with the system they were created for, and create a separate application per integration so that access can be withdrawn individually.
{% endhint %}
