# Search Indexing

Search Indexing controls the index that powers product search and filtering on the storefront. The index is what allows a customer's search to return results instantly, rather than the store having to work through the whole catalogue each time.

The index updates as the catalogue changes. Re-indexing manually is useful after a large catalogue change, such as a bulk import, or if search results do not reflect what the merchant can see in the catalogue.

### How to Re-index a Store

1. Click on System at the bottom of the left-hand menu
2. Click on Search Indexing
3. Select the store to index
4. Start the indexing run

Indexing a large catalogue takes time to complete. Search stays available while it runs, and results update as the index rebuilds.
{% endhint %}
